Palais des Congres de Montreal

Montreal’s Palais des Congres (also known as the Palais) is a giant conference and exhibition center situated in the heart of the city. The Palais links the major districts of Montreal and provides convention and accommodation services for thousands of visitors to the city. The Center is known for its flexibility and high quality of service and has seen millions of people pass through its doors since its inauguration. It currently ranks first in Canada as the preferred site for international conventions, and third overall in North America.

History

The Palais des Congres de Montreal opened its doors to the general public in 1983 and since then has hosted hundreds of conventions, shows and conferences on all issues. The center went through a three-year expansion project beginning in 1999 and is now able to hold double the capacity since its inauguration.

Location

Constructed just above Montreal's Ville-Marie Expressway, the Palais des Congres is very conveniently situated in the heart of no less than four major districts in the city - Chinatown, the downtown business area, Old Montreal and the Quartier International. Some 12,000 hotel rooms are within a five minute walk away from the Palais, 4,000 of which are directly linked to the center via a network of underground pedestrian passageways. The Palais is considered to be a safe and attractive way for visitors to be right at the heart of Montreal's commercial and entertainment centers with easy access to practically everything in the city.

Architecture

The Palais des Congres de Montreal was originally designed by the 1970's architect, Victor Prus, while its expansion design was created by a larger consortium of professionals. The construction of the Palais has been inspired by light and color, and this theme can be seen throughout the building through the use of glass to bring in color during the day and transparency at the night. Unlike many convention centers across the world, the Palais is warm and welcoming, reflecting an almost festive feeling with its vibrant colors. The Palais blends in perfectly with the old and the new of Montreal, making it a pure architectural gem.

Conference Planning

Those seeking to hold a conference at the Palais des Congres will find a team of willing and efficient staff members on hand to assist. There are several floor plans to choose from, ranging from the 4,200 square meter convention floor that can hold up to 10,000 at one time, to the Panoramic Level with its stunning views over Montreal and its pleasant terrace. The center works with an exclusive catering firm, Capital Traiteur, which can adapt menus for up to 6,000 guests at a time!
